Kidney Transplant therapy involves all the treatments for kidney failure. Normally the kidney filters blood and removes waste, excess salt and water from the body. When the kidneys stop working normally it is known as kidney failure or end-stage kidney disease.
Different types of renal replacement therapy are:-
- A kidney Transplant is a surgery in which a damaged and diseased kidney is replaced with a healthy donor kidney. After a kidney transplant, the person needs to take medications for the rest of their lives that keeps the body from reacting to the transplanted organ.
- Peritoneal Dialysis is the procedure that involves piping a special fluid into the belly and thus fluid collects waste and extra salt from blood and then the used fluid drains from the belly. Before this procedure, a thin tube is placed surgically into the belly and this tube allows the fluid to get in and out of the body.
- Hemodialysis is the procedure in which a dialysis machine takes over the place of kidneys. It pumps blood out of the body, filters it and then returns into the body and it is an in-hospital procedure.
