About Dr. Satyakam Baruah
Dr. Satyakam Baruah is a neurosurgeon subspecialising in Surgery for Epilepsy trained at the prestigious Montreal Neurological Institute Canada. He received his basic Neurosurgery training from the prestigious National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences. His primary areas of interest are Epilepsy Surgery, Precision Excision of Brain and Spine Tumours in Eloquent Regions, Neuroendoscopy and Robotics. He graduated from Silchar Medical College in Assam with a medical degree. Additionally, he earned his MS in General Surgery from Assam’s Gauhati Medical College. At the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, Dr. Baruah also earned an M.Ch. in neurosurgery. The Montreal Neurological Institute awarded Dr. Baruah the Mark Rayport and Shirley Ferguson Epilepsy Surgery Fellowship Award.
Dr. Satyakam Baruah has held the position of Consultant Neurosurgeon in the past at Medanta The Medicity Gurgaon. He additionally held the position of Clinical Fellow in Epilepsy Surgery At the Montreal Neurological Institute. He is currently employed by Medanta The Medicity Gurgaon as a Consultant in Neurosurgery. Additionally, he is a member of the advisory board of the non-profit organization Epilepsy Awareness and Social Empowerment Society, located in Hyderabad. The Honors and accolades he has received serve as evidence of htheacademic and professional excellence He received the Prime Minister’s Guest Award at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi on January 26, 2016, as one of the top 100 students for academic excellence in the M.Ch. Neurosurgery program for the academic year 2014–15. He also received the 2018 American Epilepsy Society Young Investigator Fellows Award for his work on The Changing Nature of Epilepsy: A Review of Practice Profiles.He has performed a wide array of surgeries and has handled numerous complex medical cases towards the cure of epilepsy (under the supervision and later independently) ranging from the traditional open procedures to minimally invasive procedures like thermocoagulation, and LITT. Involved in the surgical management of tumors of the brain in and around the so-called eloquent areas.
