Irritable bowel syndrome is a condition in which there is a disorder of the intestines causing symptoms. Some people having IBS can have watery diarrhoea, some can have constipation or some can have both.
Symptoms
- Abdominal pain.
- Diarrhoea
- Constipation.
- Abdominal cramps.
- Feeling of fullness or bloating.
- Gas.
Diagnostic Tests
There is no specific test for IBS. After learning about the symptoms, the doctor will perform a physical examination and will be able to explain the condition.
Treatment
There is no cure for the condition, treatment only helps in relieving the symptoms.
It includes:
- Medications to ease diarrhoea.
- Medications to relieve constipation.
- Antidepressant medications to treat depression.
- Antispasmodic medications.
- Antibiotics to treat diarrhoea.
- Avoid dairy products that can worsen diarrhoea.
- Take a healthy diet full of fibre, veggies and fruits.
